Hypnotherapy vs. Stage Hypnosis

Many people have an aversion to hypnotherapy because there is quite a lot of confusion and misinformation about it. It is important to note that the primary purpose of stage hypnosis is to entertain, while hypnotherapy’s goal is to facilitate therapeutic healing.

The use of hypnotism for therapeutic purposes is referred to as hypnotherapy. A popular misconception of hypnosis is that is it places people in an unconscious state, resembling sleep. Contemporary research suggests that the hypnotic state is actually a wakeful state of focused attention, and heightened suggestibility. Most people feel very relaxed after hypnosis and often find that they sleep better that night.

A typical hypnotherapy session will include a brief interview, followed by progressive relaxation. While you are in a relaxed state it is likely that you will be more open to suggestions regarding things you would like to change. You are always fully in control of the content of your hypnotherapy session.

Hypnotherapy allows you to tap into your own imagination as part of the self-healing process. This experience tends to lead to insight in a way that can be quite different than what occurs in the logical mind when something is analyzed.

Hypnotherapy is particularly suited to habit breaking (including smoking cessation), weight loss, increasing motivation as well as for learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety.
